Brief Review
Christopher Nolan returns after the success of the Batman films to deliver an experience unlike any other. The story is superb and builds brilliantly and the acting is first class. The only other film this can be compared to is Matrix-but only because of the groundbreaking plot that's unlike anything that's come before it. I can't recommend this film highly enough and would say that every single person needs to see this film!
Full Review
Batman Begins was excellent and was quickly followed up by the brilliant second film The Dark Knight. Christopher Nolan returns once again and pulls off arguably one of the best films of this decade. The story is a little complicated and may take a few views to suck in all the details but basically the story revolves around an era where entering dreams can become a reality.
Dom Cobb is a skilled thief who extracts information from a person by entering their subconscious mind and stealing valuable secrets that the individual wouldn't otherwise divulge. This skill has cost Dom his life with his family and kids and when he is offered the opportunity at redemption he takes it.
Little does he know that the opportunity revolves around the art of 'Inception'. Now, Dom and his team aren't stealing information but planting it inside the mind of an individual. However, on top of all this a dangerous enemy stalks Dom and could threaten to destroy everything...
The plot works and although the first half hour is clouded with confusion and playing catch-up, the rest of the film does a good job to explain what on earth is going on. The plot almost runs in parallel with the Matrix with the big action sequence at the start and then the dialogue begins and the information begins to flood through. The story is first class and for a plot so complicated and off-the-wall, it really breathes some life into the otherwise monotonous and samey film genres.
This is sci-fi, mystery and action all rolled into one delicious slice that continues to surprise right up until the last scene. There is no filler here and through the story the acting comes to light. Leo Di Caprio puts on a brilliant display as Dom and as always steals the acting spotlight. The rest of the actors don't put a foot wrong and the excellent Cilian Murphy returns for Nolan's third masterpiece.
The fact that Nolan wrote and directed this film has done nothing to diminish the quality of this gem and not since the days of Alfred Hitchcock has the movie industry seen a director consistently delivering 5 star quality films. Inception is the best of the bunch and the action is top notch. The balance of special effects and intelligent shooting is excellent here - better than most other films that either do one or the other to a degree that isn't quite up to scratch.
I'm struggling to find any negatives but at 2 and a half hours some people might not like the constant confusion and playing catch-up for the first half hour. Having said that, the story itself can be a bit confusing and that will put some people off. For the ones who do stick it out, they're treated to a film unlike any other and deserves all the praise in the world. A fantastic film masterpiece that will go down as one of the best films of this decade.
