TOP 10 WORST SUPER VILLAINS

Overview

Villains are the bread and butter of any decent story and over the years many have become icons. This is all the more important for comic book villains that are as famous as their hero counterparts. From Superman to Spiderman to Fantastic 4 and The Incredible Hulk, each hold a slew of memorable villains that have captured our imagination over the years.

However, for every decent villain portrayal on screen, there are at least 3 awful ones and here we count down the top 10 worst portrayal of villains on screen. Please bear in mind that this is subject to opinion and not everyone will agree with this.

NUMBER 10 - Magneto in X-Men

Magneto_Xmen

Why?

This one might be a bit of a shock as Sir Ian McKellon is a very good actor and does do a good job with Magneto. However, the constant need to monologue and the lack of action means his character isn't as sinister as he should be.

NUMBER 9 - Doc Ock in Spiderman 2

Doc_Ock_Spiderman

Why?

Personally I was disappointed with the portrayal of Doc Ock. His character was underused and personally didn't do it for me. Might be a bit harsh but I just didn't feel the villain was as memorable here as in the comics.

NUMBER 8 - Toad in X-men

Toad_xmen

Why?

His role was pitiful throughout and his appearance just didn't seem right for the character. His presence wasn't felt throughout and his battle with Storm at the end was uninspiring and nowhere near the level Toad should have been.

NUMBER 7 - Sabretooth in X-men

Sabretooth_xmen

Why?

The unintelligent, stocky mess of the character that is Logan's nemesis was reduced to being a puppy dog for Magneto to abuse. Origins had the better idea with the character and after that film, looking back its clear to see that this Sabretooth was really underused.

NUMBER 6 - The Riddler in Batman Forever

riddler_batman

Why?

Jim Carrey seemed like a logical choice for the crazy, sinister Riddler but the laughs, which came thick and fast throughout, was a little too over the top and the character wasn't as strong as he could have made it.

A little more of The Shining and a little less Liar Liar would have suited the character far better.

NUMBER 5 - Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin

Why?

Arnold schwarzenegger not only turned Mr Freeze from a charismatic icy genius to a monotomous, boring villain; he also succeeded in destroying what sinister aura remained with a few singing guards. Very scary indeed for all the wrong reasons.

NUMBER 4 - New Goblin in Spiderman 3

Newgoblin_spiderman3

Why?

Not only was the character not needed in the messy, overpopulated sequel to the dire second film, the attire used for the villain was just laughable. Looking like a futuristic ski-victim from an SSX game, New Goblin was a mess and lacked any real evil instinct.

NUMBER 3 - Dr. Doom in Fantastic 4

drdoom_fantasticfour

Why?

By the time Dr. Doom finally came into fruition, the film was starting to round up and come to a close. Not only that, but by the time Doom arrived his evil streak didn't live up to the expectations surrounding what should have been an iconic character.

Not only that but to make matters worse, Dr Doom never seemed like doing that much damage apart from putting his adversaries to sleep with his boring voice.

NUMBER 2 - Bane in Batman &Robin

bane_batman

Why?

Just missing out on the top spot, the portrayal of Bane in Batman and Robin was one of the most shockingly bad moments in any superhero film. Even more shocking than the mess that was The Incredible Hulk, Bane was reduced to not only a lackey to Poison Ivy, but also a brain-dead moron.

For anyone familiar with the comics, Bane was nothing like this and the shocking portrayal of the character has not only destroyed his reputation as a reputable villain but also made him a laughable one too.

NUMBER 1 - Two-Face in Batman Forever

twoface_batman

Why?

The top spot had to go to Tommy Lee Jones' camp portrayal of one of Gotham City's finest villains. The multi-layered villain was stripped of al dignity the minute Jones decided to turn this super villain into a Jack Nicholson Joker rip-off with a cliché laugh.

What makes matters worse is Tommy Lee Jones is better than this and his role in Men In Black shows this. However, here he's dreadful and solely responsible for turning one of the best villains of the series to the campest and least scary.
